When to choose
U1B - 16-19 AWG full-pair inline splice
Choose U1B for larger copper telecom drop wire with standard insulation. It is a gel-filled inline connector for one full pair, used when the conductor is within 0.9-1.3 mm / 19-16 AWG and insulation O.D. is up to 3.18 mm.
- Best fit: larger copper telephone drop wire.
- Connection role: inline full-pair splice.
- Check before quote: conductor size, insulation O.D., quantity, packaging, and destination market.
When to choose
U1R - 19-24 AWG full-pair inline splice
Choose U1R when the job needs the same full-pair inline splice role as U1B, but the conductor is smaller. U1R covers 0.5-0.9 mm / 24-19 AWG copper telecom drop wire with insulation O.D. up to 3.18 mm.
- Best fit: smaller or thinner copper telephone drop wire.
- Connection role: inline full-pair splice.
- Check before quote: confirm whether the conductor range points to U1R rather than U1B.
When to choose
UDW2 - 16-19 AWG with thicker insulation
Choose UDW2 when the conductor range is similar to U1B, but the drop wire has heavier insulation or sheath. UDW2 accepts 0.9-1.3 mm / 19-16 AWG conductors and maximum insulation O.D. up to 4.4 mm.
- Best fit: heavier-sheath outdoor copper telecom drop wire.
- Connection role: inline drop wire connector for thicker insulation.
- Check before quote: insulation O.D. is the key difference versus U1B.
When to choose
101E - 26-21 AWG, 4-wire inline / tap
Choose 101E for fine-gauge telephone drop wire where a 4-wire inline joint or tap-in requirement is needed. 101E supports 0.4-0.7 mm / 26-21 AWG conductors and maximum insulation O.D. up to 1.4 mm.
- Best fit: fine-gauge telephone drop wire and 4-wire joints.
- Connection role: inline / tap connector.
- Cat.5 compliance is a conditional spec note only, not a data or Ethernet marketing claim.
When to choose
557TG - aerial self-stripping drop wire tap
Choose 557TG for overhead or aerial drop wire tap-off where a self-stripping tap splice is required. It is used for supported copper telecom drop wire when wire size, insulation O.D., and installation conditions match.
- Best fit: overhead / aerial drop wire tap-off.
- Connection role: self-stripping tap splice.
- Check before quote: wire range, aerial application, packaging, and expected volume.

Yes - Mintel continues to manufacture U1B, U1R, UDW2, 101E, and 557TG.
U1B or U1R?
By conductor size. U1B for larger (0.9-1.3 mm / 19-16 AWG); U1R for smaller (0.5-0.9 mm / 24-19 AWG). Both splice one full pair inline.
U1B or UDW2?
Same conductor range (19-16 AWG). UDW2 accepts thicker insulation (up to 4.4 mm OD vs 3.18 mm) for heavier drop wire.
What wire do these fit?
Use with copper telecom drop / service wire when conductor size and insulation diameter match the selected model; confirm non-standard conductor materials before order.
Are these gel-filled?
Yes - gel-filled IDC construction helps protect each joint against moisture.
